Events are in the planning stage but the first one proposed is a LRP and Re-Enactment Kit and Social Fair in the summer holidays.
Date: Summer Holidays
31st August to 2nd September
Time: Thursday to Monday
Old Castle, Llangain, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK
These events are under discussion but the general idea is to offer an event where LRPers and Re-Enactors can come together to enjoy a weekend of shopping, meeting people and if a group would like to take over the LRP side of things to enjoy a bit of LRPing.
We would invite everyone to be in costume for the weekend and if they have an in character tent to camp on the Motte bit of the Earthworks to create a "village". "Ordinary" tents can be put up on the Bailey below.
You are welcome to make a week of it if you want to enjoy taking a look around Wales.
Cost:. £30 Traders, £15 Guests
Extra days £10/day
All proceeds go to the Old Castle Trust to fund the animals and Living History construction.
Our tavern will be provided by THE CRIMSON MOON http://www.crimson-moon.co.uk
To be decided
It is going to be in the summer holidays, not the first two weeks or the Bank Holiday or possibly one at Easter if there is enough interest.
As a trader in the past I am sympathetic to traders and we are planning a 'trading village' around the tavern.
We can have as many traders as want to come. The trading field is over an acre. As traders sign up we will put them on our web site with a link to their web site so you'll be able to see who else has signed up.
Expected footfall would be for camping so as people start booking we'll keep you notified of numbers. We hope that traders will also help to get people along.
It is outdoor. The event is being held on the Medieval earthworks, motte and bailey.
The traders will be on the higher bit with anyone with "in character" tents. Modern tents we are planning to have "beyond the hedge" to keep the atmosphere of the main trading area.
Disabled access is good. Access to the site is up a private road, across our yard and you can drive onto the field. There can also be a car park on another field which is not used for animals.
Toilet facilities will be a hand built composting toilet block if we can get it done, otherwise we will hire portaloos.
The more people we have coming, the more funds we will have so the better materials we can buy so the better toilet facilities there can be next year. Handwashing will be from a tank full of spring water. We could put in solar showers but that needs a bit of research as we understand it works in theory, we will have to try it out in practice. The development will no doubt be commented on (the good and the bad) on the web site.
Activities: Who would like to do what? Any group attending is welcome to run a linear in the woodland/hidden valley. It has been suggested that the re-enactors may hold a demonstration battle. We have a 15 acre field we can use for this (we'll keep the sheep out of the way) so this is possible.
Obviously we will have the Crimson Moon with all the wonderful entertainment they provide.
We are planning a catwalk style costume competition for traders and possibly other competitions such as a LRP Fighting Arena and Archery Competitions.
If anyone wants to organise entertainment to showcase what they do then they are welcome. This is a crossover between LRP and Re-enactment so the perfect opportunity to look at each other's hobby.
We have a small quarry which is a perfect storytelling area or somewhere to give talks on aspects of the hobby and crafts/skills.
For dog walking (if people bring pets, please keep on a lead and pick up the poo or you will harm the goats) Green Castle surrounds us with about 100 acres of walks and woodland.
If anyone would like to volunteer to help us set up, that would be greatly appreciated.
Archery: Would anyone like to set up an Archery Competition who has the "kit". I saw something which I think was run by BOARS but I may be wrong. Also, LRP, how about a LRP archery competition.
Fighting: We can set up a fighting circle for a fighting competition. Obviously LRP fights LRP and Re-enactor I don't know if that is possible. If someone can enlighten me that would be great.
2 June (First Weekend in June)
Festival of Wool
This s shearing weekend where those who have booked fleeces can pick them up. It is a get together for anyone interested in wool craft and any other "ancient" craft, or learning how crafts are done.
